For aspiring ballerinas, progressing to pointe work is a significant milestone. However, this exciting step requires careful preparation to ensure safety and longevity in dance. A pre-pointe assessment with a qualified physiotherapist is a critical part of this process. At Kobodi Wellness Studio located in Balwyn North, we specialise in guiding dancers on their journey to pointe with thorough assessments and personalized support.

What to expect
A pre-pointe assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to determine whether a dancer’s body is ready for the physical demands of pointe work. Pointe requires strength, flexibility, and control to reduce the risk of injury and support optimal performance. During this one-on-one session with our experienced physiotherapist in Balwyn North, we will:
-
Assess Alignment and Posture: Proper alignment is crucial for pointe work. We’ll evaluate your posture both in static positions and dynamic movement to identify any imbalances.
-
Evaluate Foot and Ankle Strength: The feet and ankles bear significant load en pointe. We test the strength, range of motion, and stability of these areas to ensure they’re prepared for pointe work.
-
Test Core and Lower Limb Stability: Pointe demands strong core and leg muscles. We’ll assess your pelvic control, hip stability, and lower limb mechanics.
-
Analyze Dance-Specific Movements: We’ll observe you performing key movements, such as relevés and pliés, to assess your technique and identify areas for improvement.
-
Identify Growth Considerations: For younger dancers, we take into account their stage of physical development to ensure it’s an appropriate time to begin pointe work.
